ScotRHIG Launched

A new forum has been established to raise awareness of specifically rural housing issues and solutions. The Scottish Rural Housing Information Group (ScotRHIG) was set up following discussions at the Rural Housing Service Conference.

Led by the Scottish Rural Business and Property Association (SRPBA) and the Rural Housing Service, the group has established itself as a means by which those connected with rural housing, irrespective of their status or of the tenures they offer, may raise awareness and share information and good practice amongst all its members. It also acts as a support network for practitioners, many of whom, by the very nature of their work, were otherwise in isolation from each other. The opportunity has also been taken to investigate partnership working and provide continuing professional development for its members.

Speaking from the SRPBA offices in Musselburgh, venue for the group’s first meeting, Sarah-Jane Laing, co-founder of ScotRHIG, said:

“Right across Scotland there has long been a unsatisfied need for housing professionals in rural concerns to be able to share experiences, knowledge and ideas. ScotRHIG has been set up in order to fill that gap, amidst a great surge of enthusiastic support, and now brings together representatives from community, voluntary, public and private sectors.

" We are an inclusive and open group. Even those who cannot easily attend meetings are being catered for through e-membership arrangements. Put simply, what we want is to achieve better rural housing, and anyone who can help us do that is welcome to participate.”
