Assisted Housing Project Completed

By 20 June the last two purchasers will have moved into the completed Oakwood Field development at Little Ballinluig. The construction of the fifteen low cost homes at the site was supported by Communities Scotland, the Scottish Executive’s housing and regeneration agency, through the Rural Home Ownership Grant mechanism.

This scheme offered grants to local people who met the criteria, under a priority arrangement which provided financial support not normally exceeding 33% of the approved costs.

Kepranich Developments, responsible for the construction of the site, maintain that the development can be judged to be successful because all the houses have been allocated, and a real sense of community is already apparent among the new residents.

Homestake Housing Proposal

Justin Rawson of Kepranich told Comment: “There were a number of potential buyers who were unable to raise enough funds to allow them to progress through this particular grant mechanism. As a consequence we have submitted an application to Perth and Kinross Council for a further eleven houses to be built in the remaining half of the field.

“It is hoped that these homes will be sold onto potential residents through the Homestake shared-equity programme.” He explained that this will allow buyers to purchase a majority share in a property, whilst the remainder will be paid for by a housing association.
